Executive Director, Global Clinical Head – Rheumatology Cell Therapy

We are seeking a Senior Medical Director in Immunology Cell Therapy to craft and deliver our Immunology Cell Therapy pipeline and lead innovative clinical stage cell therapy programs. The Global Clinical Head – Rheumatology Cell Therapy (GCH-RCT) is accountable of all the clinical development aspects related to one or more programs of cell and gene therapy in rheumatology indications across multiple geographies, spanning from Ph1 to Ph2/3 with registrational intent. Additionally, the GCH-RCT is expected to influence the overaching strategy of AstraZeneca in the rheumatology space, with emphasis on new platforms for cell and gene therapy. The job includes direct people management responsibilities of a group of physicians and/or clinical scientists involved in study-related activities. The GCH-RCT reports directly into the VP of Immunology Cell Therapy (ICT) and sits in their Leadership Team.
Accountabilities:
Represents the clinical development function at Global Project Team (GPT) level
Accountable for the clinical development strategy and execution within the Clinical Project Team (CPT)
Represents Rheumatology in the ICT-LT, and in other strategic committees
Coordinates the activities of physicians/clinical scientists involved in the different clinical studies and mentors them in their career development
Provides input to the development strategy from a medical and clinical perspective
Leads or oversees a diverse range of initiatives to improve quality, integrity of information interpretation, cost or time and where appropriate lead the development of new methodology or process to provide business benefit
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Medical degree
Professional qualification in Rheumatology
Relevant experience in the field of rheumatology and
15+ yrs experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech sector (in the absence, significantly longer experience in the academic/non-profit setting)
Significant understanding of the overall drug development and commercialization process
Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets and project initiatives in a global environment
Conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking
Ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive, organizational relationships
Desirable Skills
PhD in immunology, rheumatology or cell & gene therapy, or equivalent academic/non-profit experience/post
Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory developments
Operational expertise in risk management and contingency planning
Familiarity with the latest research and thinking
Effective problem and conflict resolution skills and proven team focus
Excellent knowledge of AstraZeneca policies, procedures and guidelines
